Storyline

Although this series shares its name with the subtitle of the third "Terminator" movie, you won't find Arnold Schwarzenegger on "Rise of the Machines." Its hourlong episodes document how the engineering inside some extreme instruments has helped them to evolve further than imagined. CGI animations tear each one apart to reveal inner workings that make the whole as powerful as it is: A megatruck has the pulling power of a freight train; a bullet train has the horsepower of 16 Formula One cars; a 100,000-ton carrier has an aircraft-launch system inspired by a Da Vinci sketch.
