Storyline

When an old witch dies, a new one comes and takes her place, this is how it always has been. Thus the young witch Clíodhna comes into Gleann an Phéine, a remote valley far in the north, to replace her predecessor Fionnula. But the valley is different from the place of men - spirits haunt the forest, fairies dwell in the swamp lands and trolls live high up in the mountains and paths may lead astray an unsuspecting traveler easily. Can Clíodhna, who is very different from Fionnula, gain the trust of the villagers - most of all that of Rórdán, the assistant of the blacksmith Bran? And who is the mysterious other witch in the valley who seems set against Clíodhna at every occasion?
