Wizards Aren't Real

Storyline

Billy Neill has lived a normal life doing normal activities like any normal human living in our mundane human world...or at least to his own recollection that is. One morning he wakes up expecting to go about his normal routine. Right away he realizes there is something very abnormal going on. It appears that he suddenly has the ability to magically alter reality. He is freaked out at first but then decides this could be a really cool thing and he can't wait to tell his family and friends who mostly think he's losing his mind. His father Jerry is so concerned for his son's seemingly declining mental health after the family dog goes missing that he sends him to a therapist to get help. As it turns out this is the same therapist Billy had been seeing long term several years back after some childhood trauma rocked the Neill family to its core, Dr. Mallord. We soon find out the doctor does not seem to have the best interests of the Neill family in mind. His receptionist seems a bit off too. Stepmom Lisa and little sister Amy can't stand Dr. Mallord and Billy is concerned by the bad advice he receives but Jerry just doesn't seem to notice anything wrong. Meanwhile Billy's best friend Jeff is fully on board with believing Billy and encouraging him to figure out how to control these powers. Amy is not thrilled by this but decides to help look into things enlisting the help of her best friend Chrissy. In her investigation she discovers Billy has family he didn't know about and she goes to meet this mysterious aunt they had never heard of. Aunt Nerissa appears to be a bit kooky and works in a new age shop. At first she clams up when Amy mentions Billy refusing to help or share any information regarding Billy's family and past but later decides to help out in other ways. All of this leads to Billy discovering a whole forgotten past and traumatic events he had been pushing down in his memory for over a decade thanks to the bad advice of Dr. Mallord. Along the way to this discovery he travels to a strange new land with a dark and mysterious council room after his sister is taken away by Nerissa. He gets his whole group of friends from game group to go along and help rescue Amy. All but Uncle Darren and Jeff's brother Troy went along. Uncle Darren was not invited because Billy worried he would tell Jerry what they were up to. Although he was invited, Troy had to stay home to care for their ill mother who is dying and doesn't have long left without being able to try a miraculous new treatment her insurance won't cover. Jeff is obsessed with playing the lotto hoping to win so he could pay for her treatment and finally his wish comes true just before Billy's forgotten memories return and Jerry finally tells off Dr. Mallord which is what spikes Billy's memory of what really happened to his mother Isla who disappeared and was thought to be murdered by the same serial killer who was responsible for the brutal killing of Lisa's husband. All the while the entire family and friends are being stalked by a mysterious stranger, Lawrence Fotter, who turns out to be on the council in the strange land.
