Storyline

Peer Eggen, a major finance- and businessman, is positioning himself for an important acquisition; all while a troublesome tax case is on its way to court. Meanwhile, an invoice from an unknown Dutch company lands on the desk of Ida Waage, chief accountant at the influential law firm Biermann and Gude. The amount is modest, but seemingly lacks basis, and Ida discovers that the invoice is part of a money laundering operation on behalf of B &G's biggest client, Peer Eggen. She alerts the board, but instead of going after the ones responsible, they turn on her with harassment and fabricated accusations. Shaken, Ida alerts the Norwegian Police Unit for Investigating of Economic Crime, Økokrim, expecting this to be the end of it as far as she is concerned. Økokrim's investigator, Eirik Bråten, soon finds that the invoice is a cover-up fort a transaction between Eggen and the husband of Norway's Minister of Justice, Anette Nordeide. Others have also caught the smell of corruption. Journalist Shahin Patel gets a tip-off, the case hits the public like a bombshell and the press goes ballistic. B and G fights back by publicly attacking Ida's credibility with vile stories. After receiving death threats Ida is relieved when Økokrim finally files an indictment against the Anette Nordeide. But one night, as the case is drawing to an end, the Minister is killed in a car accident. Shahin, the first to arrive at the scene, is subsequently accused of chasing her to her death. She is forced to apologize, and is subsequently fired. Eirik, on his part, sees Økokrim waive the indictment. While Eggen, the B and G leadership and the establishment join forces to protect Anette Nordeide's legacy, Eirik becomes suspicious regarding the car accident that led to her death. Was it really an accident? Could Eggen be behind it? The same thought has also struck Shahin. Together they launch a desperate hunt for evidence in a case everyone else is only too happy to leave alone. Eirik is removed from the case when he attempts to have the car wreck re-examined, a move instigated by the Attorney General, - who in turn is appointed the country's new Minister of Justice. Ida refuses to let the culprits get away. While Eggen has succeeded in bringing everybody else to their knees, the woman who started it all makes the bold move of taking her former workplace to court; one woman against the country's most powerful law firm. Eventually Eggen's henchmen in B and G find themselves forced to testify. Their offenses are finally put on record, and Ida has won a personal victory. So have Eirik and Shahin who worked with her in ensuring the outcome of the trial. But Eggen himself walks free. Loud cheers all around soon drown the publicity that surrounded the trial when Eggen makes public the acquisition of Nordkraft, the once state owned power giant. Peer Eggen has entered his new position as Norway's most influential and powerful man.
