About this title

Storyline

"Slave Stealers" refer to those fearless individuals who risked everything to liberate their enslaved brethren in the antebellum American South; and for those captured in this pursuit, the punitive S.S. that was branded onto their bodies with burning iron by the authorities. Adapted from the book Slave Stealers: True Accounts of Slave Rescues; Then and Now by author and Executive Producer Tim Ballard, a former CIA Officer and world-renowned founder of the anti-human trafficking nonprofit Operation Underground Railroad, this thrilling series features superhuman heroism in the face of existential stakes, chronicling the men and women throughout history who chose to fight against this most vile of institutions. A fight that continues to this day - Edenton is the eight-hour self-contained first season of the Slave Stealers Series, with each subsequent season focusing on a different historical slave stealer while still following this same contained, serialized pattern with its own beginning, middle and end. Set largely in the small historic town of Edenton, North Carolina, Edenton tells the remarkable true story of Harriet Jacobs: a legendary Slave Stealer, survivor of sexual abuse and towering figure of American literature who authored arguably the most influential autobiography ever published by a fugitive slave. In the vein of other seminal texts such as The Diary of Anne Frank and Roots, the focus of Season One of Slave Stealers thus belongs rightly to Harriet Jacobs.
