Storyline

Born into poverty, Lupe dreams of a better life. She cares for her crippled mother, who is also her harshest critic. Poor, crippled people usually engender feelings of pity, but Lupe's mother adds to her burden. She is the metaphor that represents this movie's title: Lupe carries her mother on her own back as she begs for alms.
