About this title

Storyline

A comedy-drama series involving conspiracies, murders, strange coincidences, and a cast of eccentric characters. The story is told in the present, but events are revealed through flashbacks as the series progresses. The conspiracy that the main characters are investigating spans 30 years. In 1975, the five original conspirators co-operated in the rape and murder of Eleftheria (a young woman), and in the subsequent cover-up. Gerasimos Venetopoulos, an innocent man, served as their scapegoat, convicted and imprisoned for the crime. The prosecutor in the trial, Evaggelos Stavrianidis, eventually realized that the man was innocent, and started privately investigating the case. In 1991, a sabotaged airplane crashes, killing all passengers and crew. Nobody is ever convicted in the case. All five protagonists (at a younger age), loose relatives and loved ones in the crash, changing the course of their lives. C. 2005, Evaggelos Stavrianidis is an aging politician and former government minister, who is still gathering evidence about the conspiracy and its activities in the intervening years. But he is assassinated through a poison which induces a heart attack. As he is dying in a hotel elevator, Stavrianidis passes along information to five random strangers who were with him in his dying moment (the protagonists). For their own reasons, the new group of five decide to team up and investigate the case. Throughout the series, the five locate former members of the conspiracy, witnesses to their crimes, and other involved persons, but most of these sources are themselves murdered by current agents of the conspiracy. The trail eventually leads to the real head of the conspiracy: Aris Pavrinos, the recently-elected (fictional) Prime Minister of Greece. Meanwhile the five have to escape murder attempts on their own lives and threats to their loved ones. The main cast consists of -1) Dahlia Hatzialexandrou. A reclusive billionaire, who inherited her wealth from a ruthless and rather shady father. She has a childish demeanor and often lacks information on elements of everyday life. -2) Zoumboulia Abatzidou, a moderately successful owner of a farm, who was widowed years ago. She is the mother to an adult daughter, and recently gained her first grandchild. She is the oldest and most experienced member of the group, but she is also easily shocked or scared. Her screams are a running gag. -3) Spyros Deloglou. A quiet, withdrawn young man who is still working hard to earn his college degree. He still lives with the widowed grandmother who raised him. Part of the humor in the series is that grandma and her best friend are always seeking new experiences and sensations (trying to make up for lost time), while the youthful Spyros rarely tries anything new or exciting. -4) Fotis Voulinos. An obscure television reporter. He works for a television station owned by his father, but the station has few viewers and constantly struggles for ratings. Fotis' main co-worker is his cousin and rival Frida Papaparaskeva, a glory-hound who dreams of stardom. -5) Aggela Ioakimidou. A former teenage runaway, who has had a minor career as a theatrical actress. Due to the nature of her career, she is often without a steady source of income and seeks part-time jobs. Her rather nasty temper has a tendency to alienate others.
