En febrero de 1981 Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo está a punto de ser nombrado presidente de España. En el palacio de la Zarzuela, el día trascurre con relativa normalidad para una familia real que todavía está acostumbrándose a su nueva vida. Sin embargo, no muy lejos de allí, un grupo de militares encabezados por Antonio Tejero prepara un golpe de Estado. Descontentos con el rumbo que ha tomado el país desde la muerte de Franco, se proponen modificar la situación a su manera.
