Hyperion

Storyline

7 people are chosen for a Pilgrimage to the Time Tombs on the planet Hyperion. The Time Tombs are the supposed home of the ancient and futuristic creature called the Shrike. 8 feet tall, covered with chrome and spikes with ember red eyes. The Shrike's apparent purpose is to harvest humans for his Tree of Pain, where the human will stay impaled on a huge, chrome spike and suffer until atonement is attained. The Pilgrims face a long journey so that each may meet the Shrike at the Time Tombs on their terms. This pilgrimage takes place on the eve of a war between the human race, and the Ousters, an offshoot of human spacers whose rumored genetic adaptions have put them at odds with the human government.
