About this title

Storyline

Heirloom is a character-driven, one-hour, Rustic SciFi drama set in the final decade of the twenty-first century. Climate change chaos has reduced the world to a single nation ruled by an emergency totalitarian government, who justifies their iron grip by holding humanity from the brink of self-inflicted extinction. Indoctrinated a part of its system, Louise Brown is an ocean reclamation undergraduate who is hesitantly pulled back home to the nation's breadbasket, in the rural countryside of Humboldt County, after her brother Edward suddenly dies. Going against the wishes of both her mothers and her native community, Louise begins her own inconvenient investigation into her brother's suspicious death. Stephen, the government's mole inside a burgeoning revolutionary group Edward had been caught up with, isn't fond of Louise's investigation-after all, he killed her brother. Louise's return home is further complicated by a looming romance with her adolescent love interest, Michael. Michael is a deputy of the local law under his father, Han... and Han is also complicit in the cover-up. Michael is embittered but eventually forced into taking a harder line with Louise, when he eventually gets orders to keep tabs on her. Louise eventually discovers that Edward's death will expose him as a traitor to the regime, with consequences to her entire family - and herself. She also discovers that her grandfather was behind not only Edward's radicalization, but the very founding of the underground resistance. By the Season One finale, Humboldt is a powder keg in which just about everyone has a reason to yell at, arrest, or even kill Louise. Despite her feelings in the first episode, Louise has no intention of leaving until she can figure out what is going on.
