About this title

Storyline

OFT Project is a participative web and an animated TV series, both providing feedback to each other. Each clip is a monologue taken from interviews with grandparents all around the globe, where they tell true-life stories about their childhood. The web is an interactive database that stores classified fragments of the interviews and related stories or documents uploaded by users. Grandparents all around the globe tell true-life stories about their childhood. The web stores video stories and related documents uploaded by users. OFT is based on an animated TV series + online collaborative platform. The first is centered in poetic narrative of the story, the second put the stress on documental data and video-based interviews. Old Folk's Tales is a participative web platform and an animated 26x5min. TV series, both providing feedback to each other, prompted by public summon and specific actions. Each 5 min. animated clip is a monologue taken from interviews with grandparents all around the globe, where they tell their true-life stories of when they were kids during hard times. In a close-up and using rotoscoping, mixed fluently with animations that illustrate the story in a free interpretation, rebuilding their memories. It is animation based on real action images and sounds, extracted from the interviews with the flesh and blood main characters. The voice of the original sound recording is the common thread of the entire sequence. Animation allows us to approach the glance of the witness-child to the memories of the elderly, and the old folks story telling to the current generations of children. The story of each episode is focused not so much on the historical data about the specific war or social conflict, but on more universal topics such as friendship, the missing loved ones, children's games, fear, perception of the "other", home, comradeship... Stories of how these children, in spite of the troubled situations that enveloped the adults, fought to satisfy their universal needs. A selection of clip-testimonies can be grouped together due to geographical or temporary coincidence, topic (comradeship, fears, dreams, separation etc. already mentioned), in order to create personalised playlists on the on-line platform or to adjust the format and content to the requirements of the broadcaster. The web platform is an interactive database that stores classified fragments of the interviews done for the series as well as stories uploaded by the users using specific tools provided by the platform itself and permits access to related files stored in a format other than video (texts, photographs, drawings, links, sound clips).. This allows multiplying the story files in multiple formats, connecting the stories among themselves, reorganizing and being able to obtain unique personal and cross readings that can be shared and spread in social media. The user can upload self-portraits in video format, telling its anecdotes live, as well as photos, letters, scanned historical documents of all sorts and links to information sources about the historical conflict in question. The summoning of testimonies to be uploaded to the on-line platform is going to happen also by means of in-site specific actions (workshops on uploading testimonies to the platform, libraries, historical archives...), as well as working in collaboration with institutions involved in activities related to the use of technology among elderly. This updates and intensive communication strategy will start 6 months before the TV premier.
